It’s been a while since I did an emulation video here on the channel, but a new Nintendo Switch emulator has recently caught my eye.
The emulator is called Citron and in today’s video I’ll be showing you how to download and install a custom MESA Turnip Driver within this emulator.

Download and Install Citron
You can get Citron for free over on its Git website.
The developers seem to be avoiding GitHub right now, which is likely a smart decision

I’ll have this page linked in the video description below, as well as the pinned comment, so you can download this homebrew Switch emulator for your Android device.

Once here, you’ll head over to the releases page, and then grab one of the two APK files that are offered here.
I suggest opting for the optimized version, but you can test both of them out if you’d like.

Once the application has been installed, open it up and then begin going through the onboarding process.
You’ll notice the application is looking like a clone of Yuzu, so you know where the codebase is starting from.

Download the MESA Turnip Driver
There are a few sources for these compiled MESA Turnip Drivers for the Adreno GPUs used in the Snapdragon chips from Qualcomm. I know a developer named Mr. Purple tends to be a popular choice, but I’ve always leaned toward K11MCH1’s GitHub page for these drivers as they have performed well and they’ve kept the GitHub page up to date.

I’ll have this website linked down below too, for anyone who needs a quick way to find it.

Most people will do fine just downloading the latest driver from this page. . .but some versions run better on certain hardware.
You can ask around about which driver is best for your chipset. . .but things are so spotty right now that it’s usually best to manually test things yourself.

I’m just going to download the latest driver here, which will be available as a ZIP file.
We can save this file anywhere within the Downloads folder for quick access.

MESA Turnip Driver in Citron
After you have everything installed and downloaded, launch the Citron application and then tap on the Settings tab down here at the bottom.

Look for the GPU Driver manager option
And from this menu you can tap the Install button in the bottom right corner.

This will bring up a file browser where you will want to find the MESA Turnip Driver that was just downloaded.
After it has been installed, Citron should switch to it automatically, but you can do this yourself if you find the app fails to change over.

And when you go back, you can see the card here changes from using the System Driver to using the custom MESA Turnip Driver that we just installed.

Conclusion
With all of this done, you should now test your Switch homebrew games to make sure everything is working correctly.
I have found that these mesa turnip drivers are GREAT at fixing games that have graphical glitches from time to time. Like textures loading up blank. . .or seeing strange graphics flickering on the screen when you move around.

Some will notice a slight performance improvement when switching away from the System GPU driver, but most will see games perform slightly worse. Which is why it’s always a good idea to test things out to see which driver works best for certain games and certain phones.

As always, if you have any questions about this guide, then feel free to ask in the comments section below.
